International Women’s Day 2026: Women of History Inspiring Women of Tomorrow
At Continuum Attractions, our passion for storytelling has always been rooted in celebrating remarkable lives - especially those of women whose courage, creativity and leadership have shaped the world we live in today.
This International Women’s Day (8th March), we’re reflecting on the extraordinary women from the past whose stories continue to inspire guests across our attractions and the modern women within our own organisation who are shaping the next chapter of history.
Championing women’s stories across our attractions
Across the Continuum family, women’s voices echo through history:
At Eden Camp Modern History Museum, immersive exhibits bring to life the stories of women on the Home Front during the Second World War - from munitions workers to members of the Women’s Land Army, Royal Navy Wrens and auxiliary services. These displays honour how women stepped into new roles, breaking barriers and redefining what was possible in times of national crisis.
Through The Real Mary King’s Close, we tell the story of Mary King, a 17th-century Edinburgh businesswoman who carved her own path in a male-dominated society. Mary, a merchant burgess, lived and worked on the Close in Edinburgh’s Old Town, which now bears her name.
At York’s Chocolate Story, guests learn about Mary Tuke, often remembered as the mother of York’s chocolate industry - a pioneer whose influence still resonates in one of Britain’s most beloved treats. Guests also hear about Mary Ann Craven, known for her mighty humbugs.
Across our other brands, from Oxford Castle & Prison to The Loch Ness Centre, female leaders, innovators and everyday citizens are central to the historical narratives we share.
Celebrating women leading today
History isn’t just about the past - it’s happening now.
We’re especially proud to celebrate all the women of Continuum who deliver incredible guest experiences each and every day including Summer O’Brien, Collections & Engagement Manager at Eden Camp Modern History Museum - the latest attraction in our portfolio.
In 2025, Summer was named one of the Global Publishing Media Group’s Women in Leadership Top 100 for 2026. Her passion for preserving and sharing history is infectious and shows how powerful storytelling can inspire future generations.
Within Continuum itself, women hold leadership roles that shape strategy, creativity and guest experience every day. Their voices reflect the very values we seek to recognise this International Women’s Day.
At Continuum Attractions, we believe that every story matters. This International Women’s Day, we celebrate:
- Women whose lives changed the course of history
- Women today who are shaping culture, education, leadership and heritage
- Future women whose stories are yet to be told
Whether you’re exploring a wartime exhibit at Eden Camp, walking the streets of historic Edinburgh, or uncovering hidden histories in Oxford or York, the lessons of resilience, courage and creativity are everywhere - told through the voices of women.
